That Song Meme

I was tagged.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions in your Live Journal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to. Do it if you want.

1. Improvisation II - Stephen Stubbs
17th century Italian and Slovakian music influenced improv by good plucked and bowed string instrument musicians. I love this sort of music.

2. Trailer Music - Hjaltalín
Fun Icelandic band that were performing in a store I wandered into on the day before Christmas. They're mostly very classically trained (as in they're a gang of people who met in music school and formed a band afaik) and it shows in some of their stuff. Sometimes a bit more sometimes a bit less but I love them.

3. Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
I was handed the mp3. Don't really know more about them than just this one but it's been in steady rotation on my ipod for a few days.

4. The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash
Shouldn't need an introduction :D

5. Le Plus Beau Du Quartier - Carla Bruni
The new Mrs. French President and ex-model. I was NOT expecting to like her music but I do. It's understated, slightly quirky and fun. Also a type that by far works the best in French.

6. Something Stupid - Páll Óskar and Bogomil Font
A cover of Something Stupid by two male singers, what's not to love?

7. Maple Leaf Rag - Scott Joplin
Ok there's a little bit of a story behind this one. The people living above me, or more accurately the people who used to live above me had a piano. They played lots of ragtime music on the piano and in particular they played Maple Leaf Rag almost every sunday afternoon.

So yeah this summer quite often had sunlight filtering through the window while I steadfastly didn't do anything but laze around with my cat or play with her with the tinkling notes of Maple Leaf Rag drifting down from above, complete with slight mistakes and do overs. I imprinted on their version of the song and then when they moved and I didn't have my free musical performances every sunday anymore I went and tried to find a version that was closest to the one I was used to. This one is it.

Here's a zip file of all of those songs. Replace xx with tt. It's around 36mb. Some are the itunes format, the rest mp3, none have DRM (I'm not daft).
